DEMO GAME BOARD PART 4- I spent quite a few weeks thinking about how I was going to approach the water on this board. I checked out several 'realistic ocean waves' tutorials, some good, some not so realistic. I decided against foil waves and tissue paper waves as I wanted the transparency to them. These techniques look great on a small-scale model railway layout but they're a bit fragile and not all that Fimm Mc Coolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16885795569418541399noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527456935672193640.post-78696154210545040832024-02-12T03:24:00.000-08:002024-02-12T03:24:11.198-08:00Cult of the Leering Lune months 6 and 7 Crazy to think we're halfway through the Tale of Fourth Gamers challenge, but we are. I counted up my painted gobbos and my remaining gobbos and I am pretty much exactly halfway. You may have noticed I didn't do a blog post last month, that's because all I managed ("all") was the dude above. He's now been joined by February's unit though so it seemed worth posting. DEMO GAME BOARD PART 3- Groundworks Last weekend I spent some time messing around with flock. I wanted to put the groundwork on the boards before doing the water effects as it's easier to clean loose flock off smooth resin than off textured waves! I did also do some test pieces for the water, none of which I am totally happy with yet... more to follow. The majority of the grass is static grass mat from Noch, the closest I Fimm Mc Coolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16885795569418541399noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527456935672193640.post-36626034132373269832024-02-02T03:28:00.000-08:002024-02-02T03:28:27.920-08:00Salute 2024... DEMO GAME BOARD PART 2- Painting Wotcha everyone. I have been cracking on with my demo game board. Having carefully planned what order I was going to do things in I immediately forgot and painted the water first. This of course means that when I airbrush the rocks next I will get overspray on my water and have to repaint it... ah well. Most of this won't be seen as the water is being heavily pigmented but something will Fimm Mc Coolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16885795569418541399noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527456935672193640.post-11925298078922856932024-01-22T08:47:00.000-08:002024-01-24T07:23:19.927-08:00The road to Salute 2024... DEMO GAME BOARD PART 1This year I decided to take the plunge with Salute and not just have a stand but also run demo games of The Woods. That opens up a whole can of worms with needing to arrange bigger transport, get more helpers on board, stock up on books in the expectation (hope!) of sales... and the fun part- build a stunning display tale to suck people in!I have wanted for some time now to build two boards- one Fimm Mc Coolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16885795569418541399noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527456935672193640.post-24173588090792557492024-01-02T02:15:00.000-08:002024-01-02T02:15:43.146-08:00Happy New Fimir!Hi everyone, happy 2024! It seems mad but this year marks 10 years since Oakbound started out! Way back in the summer of 2013 I was building a Fimir army to join in the Oldhammer fun. Somebody on the forum (which still exists and is active by the way) asked if I would make the sculpts available for purchase and so my foray into the world of miniatures casting began. With about a week off after Christmas I expect to get some 'bonus' goblins painted this month but if not then this is plenty for my #T4G (Tale of Fourth Gamers) submission. This was a fun one, the Patreon serving its purpose to present some different-from-the-usual subjects for me to sculpt. The consensus for this year was a Mordheim Stirlander warband. Technically these aren't Night Goblins (despite mostly being comprised of Night Goblin champions) since Night Gobbos aren't allowed armour in 4th edition. Nevertheless, since they clearly ARE Night Goblins with armour they have been allowed to join the army. This weekend just gone was the annual Warlords of Albion Halloween game- Night of the Living Lead. This would be the last one at Foundry before they (potentially anyway) move location so I thought I ought to go up having not been to any of the others. These games always have a good ol' satirical focus and this year was no exception. It's been tight going this month as there have been lots of other things (nuisances, troubles and celebrations) going on. Nevertheless I actually managed to have a clear weekend to finish them off. The plan is to get the big units out of the way before the nights draw right in so that my limited hours of light for Fimm Mc Coolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16885795569418541399noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527456935672193640.post-30191090318005909652023-09-28T01:53:00.005-07:002023-09-28T01:53:17.767-07:00Cult of the Leering Lune- Night Goblins month 2First things first... I realised looking at my Blogger reading list that Grinning Loon has been claimed by Dave Powell for his excellent Grinning Loon Project, so in deference to his claim I have adjusted the name of my goblin clan. I originally wanted to use Grimacing or Leering but they didn't seem to have quite as satisfying a ring as Grinning for this purpose. Since then a number of these have appeared in various collections and eBay shops. Make of it what you will... Painted versions of these that clearly date to the same era as the more famous Heroquest prototypes can be seen in the Foundry cabinets. Unfortunately most of the lot was the Colin Dixon sculpts, not the best skaven which are, as everyone knows, the Mordheim plasti.... only joking, the Jes Goodwin originals. Yep, the Odds and Sods challenge is finished and, even better, I am within a gnat's whisker of completing all the 'started' armies on my shelves. That means I can reward myself by starting on the Night Goblin horde I have been slowly amassing over the last couple of years. As you'll likely know, the metal prototypes from Heroquest are my particular holy grail quest. Many months ago a fellow collector and Heroquest fanatic messaged me to say he'd found a spare casting of the prototype Man at Arms from Wizards of Morcar/Advanced Quest (Dark Company), also released with Frozen Horror Fimm Mc Coolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16885795569418541399noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527456935672193640.post-63219460845067829992023-08-03T01:56:00.002-07:002023-08-03T02:10:13.622-07:00It's a Dark World after all...Bite off more than you can chew? Me? Always...From 'I'm not painting for or bringing anything to BOYL this year' I seem to have swung quite far the other way! It all started with the heroes for Warlock of Firetop- a simple task to paint 6 figures so I could get the board game out for easy gaming over the weekend. That escalated to trying to find and paint a miniature for each of the encounters, Fimm Mc Coolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16885795569418541399noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527456935672193640.post-65138688214038545632023-08-01T01:24:00.000-07:002023-08-01T01:24:33.309-07:00The Warlock of Firetop Mountain Here's the big bad himself, and his little pet!For the Warlock I had originally looked out a model much closer to the white-bearded chap on the cover of the original gamebook. However since subsequent art has ignored this in favour of the character in the black and white illustration within he really wasn't recognisable as 'The Warlock' everyone now thinks of. Now I needed to raid my stash of figures to see if I could fill the cast of models needed for the Encounters deck in the Warlock of Firetop Mountain board game. Initially I thought it would be a good excuse to go to the Midlam website and buy in some lovely shiny new toys (they have a wonderful dwarf jester I thought would make a perfect fool), but the Fimm Mc Coolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16885795569418541399noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527456935672193640.post-83511197901897965232023-07-17T02:23:00.006-07:002023-07-17T02:35:21.114-07:00Heroes for Firetop Mountain BOYL approaches once more. This year my plan was to take nothing and just join in with Paul's big game that he's been working on painting for the last... three? four? years. Sadly that's now not able to happen so at our GROG meets we have been discussing what to bring. We've settled on some of the GW bookshelf board games and I'm going to be bringing Warlock of Firetop Mountain. This is not Fimm Mc Coolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16885795569418541399noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527456935672193640.post-24459151960591372862023-06-26T06:03:00.005-07:002023-06-26T06:03:38.488-07:00The dwarfs of the Karndunkrach GarrisonIt's been a while but I have another finished army... well, I say that. I'll elaborate on it later. The dwarfs I envisage as a small clan holed up in a mountain stronghold tinkering with their defence engines. A small but vital piece in the protection of the lands to the east of them. "Bum", I thought, "I need to be painting dwarves", not sure being obsessed with ale and gold really makes you a lunatic. But wait! Didn't I have some Slayers on the shelf that needed painting? Could I use that as an excuse to get the rest of my dwarves on the table? Hmm, only one Slayer unpainted.
