I've already said a bit about what I'm hoping to get painted, but I thought I'd start the month with something different.
Remember how flat my marsh terrain boards are? Time to get some scenery on them, and these are especially for playtesting the first scenario from Oakbound's forthcoming 'Secrets of Shandisholm' sourcebook, "Rustlers in the bushes".
Now I know the process works I'll be detailing how I make the next ones more closely. The scenarios in "Secrets" need plenty of huts so I've got more work to do and the sourcebook will probably have a double-page spread on how to make these super-easy but effective Iron Age Roundhouses.
In short, the components are: Thick card or MDF base, 'sharing' size tube of twiglets, cheesy snacks etc. (following on from the pringles theme), cereal box card, cocktail sticks, cheap fur fabric, wood varnish, polyfiller and some flock for detail.
And a view from above showing the tufts of grass and moss growing on the roofs, it's all about the texture baby!
Hopefully there'll be some nice pictures of the game in action later in the week.
Really liking the tatty look and faded colours. They look very low - how high are the doorways?
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty low, yes. About 20mm doorways. Roundhouses (they think) were often cut into the ground so you either went down a step or had to stoop to go into them. Fortunately the Warlord Games Celts have a good stooping pose!
DeleteThose look great. I like the way they hug close to the ground.
ReplyDeleteThat's some nice work - Leads me to reconsider my own, thatch roof colour scheme (which is a tad too warm). I know that, between here and Facebook - you are already spreading your stuff around - but would you ever consider signing up over a Terragenesis.uk ? We would love to have you!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I've not heard of that forum, will check it out. In all honesty I find it difficult to keep track of more than one forum at a time so tend to only use the Oldhammer one, but if you'll put up with only occasional posting I would be pleased to join.
DeleteI see that you signed up! Thank you! Occasional posting is fine. I just feel that you will be a great asset to the community.
