I have been waiting about three years to paint the High Elf Lord on Griffon from the IoB boxed set, it's largely the reason I wen for a High Elf force in the first place. Sadly it would appear from the Armies Book that 1) there's absolutely no way to field a Griffon in the size army included in the box, making it a totally illegal force, 2) In an army where you can take a Lord on a Griffon, why would you? A few more points and you can take a Dragon. Sadly this is another instance of GW producing a pretty but totally unusable model to hook people. Well, it's staying in my army and counting as a Noble on a Great Eagle, a much more sensible choice I feel. This model was also an absolute bugger to paint. Because the rider and mount are all cast in one piece (well, four- two sides and two wings) it's virtually impossible to get into all the detail. You could paint it unassembled and then blend the joins, but I like to see what the model will look like whilst painting, it's be much easier if they just made the rider separate. The Reavers are the same. Also- plastic banners! What's with these horrible plastic flags and banners with their square, unnatural flowing and moulded designs which mean you can't easily apply your own? Humph. Rant over, I think he looks pretty good considering. Please excuse the dodgy photoshop!
Welcome to the old school miniature wargaming/roleplay hobby blog of Geoff (AKA Fimm McCool) from Oakbound Studio. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Hachuan Sekht... High Elf Lord on Griffon- no, High Elf Noble on Great Eagle!

The court of Shah Kahan
The next unit for my Egyptian High Elves is painted, hooray! These Cat People are the court of my General, Shah Kahan (front rank centre) and include his harem, entertainers, catering staff and personal bodyguard.
The figures are Wargods of Aegyptus Basti, and very pretty and fun to paint they are too! For gaming purposes these are White Lions of Chrace (Badum-tish!), I had toyed with painting them albino but wanted them to match in with the other units rather than stand out to conspicuously. My Cat Mage is white with snow-leopard spots and I'm thinking of painting the griffon of my elf hero as a snow leopard too, I like the idea of snow leopards in the desert! Ultimately my White Lions became more based on Sand Cats than anything else, but I have put white manes on some of the more senior figures as a nod to the GW white lions themselves.

A retreat somewhere dry... part 2!
Here's part of what has been distracting me from finishing the Fimir over the last few months, apart from all the 40k stuff, of which more later.
My egyptian elves are rocking along nicely. Mainly the plastic elves from the Island of Blood, alongside Celtos Sidhe and the lovely Wargods of Aegyptus models.
20 Swordmasters, a combination of the IoB figures and Sidhe greatswords:
20 Seaguard, a combination of IoB and Sidhe spears/archers:
Mage number 1, a Basti master of words, and 5 Shadow warriors, converted old wardancers:
10 archers, Wargods Basti archers:
10 archers, LotR elves and Sidhe archers. The LotR elves are a bit slimmer than the others in the army, but not too much so as to look wierd mixed in:
The still unpainted units. IoB griffin (it's a great eagle, does anyone use it as a griffin? Shame, such a pretty model completely rendered useless by bad rules!), 5 Reavers and the beginnings of a spearmen unit made up of LotR elves and Sidhe:
And the IoB mage, along with 20 Wargods Basti. The intention is to paint them cream and use them as White Lions (ba-dum tish), but since I'm mainly facing Skaven I'm using them as Phoenix Guard for now. I'd like to get some Wargods Heru to be the Phoenix Guard in the long run.
My general with his harem:
The 'camp followers':
The warriors, Basti skirmishers and harem guard:
