Woods terrain and photo shoot

Aaaargh! It's mid February! I have a March publishing date looming so things are very mental here, so much still to do! However, I have finished 6 boards for the new edition of The Woods and done the first photoshoot using them, so that's one thing off the list.

A bit of inspiration from the Isle of Skye for this rocky outcrop. It will site back to back for one big peak, front to front for a narrow valley or side by side for a ridgeline. This will probably be a big part of my display board for Salute.

Closer to home, these are inspired by Puzzlewood and the Forest of Dean Scowels. I want to keep adding stuff to these until it's properly overgrown.

Using castle bits from Scotia Grendel I have built a dwarf fortress in the rocks, kinda Game of Thrones I'm told (though I've never watched or read it). These go back to back to make a fortified island in the river, back onto the Storr rocks for a mountain backdrop or sit side by side with a gatehouse and drawbridge (yet to be painted) in the middle of the main wall.

And here are some photos of miniatures in their new surroundings:

They're rats, Jim, but not as we know them!

It's not quite the end of January, and I have painted some ratmen! Not classic skaven (though they've gone on square bases to go into my skaven army) and nor do they add up to 500pts for this month's contribution, but at least they are painted!

They are 'gnawlochs' from Oakbound Studio's new The Woods book which is coming soon, and these chaps are on Kickstarter along with some fishy dudes right now: Deep One of the Powell Darks

A tale of one

Yup, it's a tale of one lamer. I have completely failed to get a single ratman painted this month.

To be fair to myself I have-
Sculpted 3 ratmen
Almost finished 6 commission pieces
Painted and created a kickstarter for the new gnomes and goblins
Built a goblin siege tower
Painted some new rock formations for my gaming table
Written all the creature entries for the new The Woods book
Drawn and painted 3 new art pieces for the book
Done a show and contacted several publishers and magazines
Bought a house

But none of that excuses me, sorry I have failed you.

I am taking a lot of December off, I will do better. By January I should then have enough skavenslaves to do the final part.

Gnomevember offerings

Hi there, me again.

Some of you may have seen I have a little kKickstarter on the go for gnomevember which contains some sculpts by various prestigious names- Martin Long, David Powell, Diego Serrate, Philip Hynes and Alessio Cisbani (plus a few from myself). These chaps have long been simmering and were due to be released to complement The Woods sourcebook Thunder Under Mount Silence, however I was finally prompted to get them sorted by some beautiful artwork from Mike Wolmarans (Tenerbae Studio) and Christian Schwager. Here 'tis:

Stunning, no? This is for a new The Woods book, of which more later. But for now here are the models as they popped out:
