Unveiling the Fimir!

No, not the new Forge World thingummies! Wanted to get a good shot of my army before Christmas. Hopefully it'll be ready to roll down to the gaming shop in the New Year whilst the Fimir are still realtively unheard-of! Still some work to do on the bases, banners, a few more fluffy bits, two more Mistmor, a Jabberwock and a Fimm Slaver to paint and some Woldlice to sculpt but reckon I've easily got 2000 points sitting there. Just finished draft A of the 'army book', based on 3rd ed Fimir stats, orcs and goblins and warriors of chaos armies, and ready to test it out. Of course, once GW releas the 'official' rules I'll integrate them as I did for the 'Balefiend' (Dirach)... with a few modifications to make them more suited to the Fimmy background I wrote of course!

The whole painted host ready for battle:

The Shearl, still unchained but now with rock formation movement trays. This means I can keep seven Fimir models with their original Heroquest bases so they match the rest of my set rather than having them all with grassy bases.

The Fimm with their lady standard bearer. Banner to follow shortly.

The Mistmor (two more to come), Dirach and Drui... who still needs his staff resculpting! Bolg (left) and Tuatha (right) human units in the background.

The Kelpies need some swampy bases modelling. Another unit of Tuatha in the background.

The army standard-bearer... escort to be begun shortly. Just photocopied the banner for her pole down from my original A4 sketch and will get to work on it tonight.

Another lady standard for my forthcoming Fianna Fimm unit.... which will not be featuring any Forge World figures! :)

A gloomier pic of the Fimm!

And one of the Mistmor... because no Fimir like too much light!

Blue Christmas!

The next of the boys' Christmas pressies... blue scribes for a Tzeentch chaos army. Went a bit dieselpunk with this one.... replacing a book and pen with an olde school typewriter. The daemon at the back winds it onto the spindle and slices off each spell scroll with his big scissors!

The scribes off their disc. The one operating the typewriter (I forget their names) has his eyeglass finely tuned to scry the winds of magic!

And the disc without the scribes. Shaped MDF with green stuff sacks and many cut-up artstraw scrolls!

(Baby don't fear the) Reaper!

My lovely Reaper ladies have arrived! And they are very pretty indeed! Couldn't wait long before I carved off their weapons and shackled a few to poles!

I've been humming and hahing for a while whether to have banners or celtic standards. I wanted my army to have a bit of the 80s warhammer look, hence the variation in colour scheme across the Fimir, but they seem to be missing something, and I reckon it is.... wild colour! So banners it is, but how to mount them? Well I have also been thinking of making some fluffy bits for added interest in my army... their captive females. Aha! What better standard for a bunch of Fimm than one of their enemies' own ladies chained at the mercy of the evil cyclops? So I give you... three 'standard bearer' models. One for my Fimm, one for my forthcoming Fianna and one to be an army standard, probably to be chained to an attendant gribbly monster at some point:

I've also got this little selection of beauties to lash to various rock faces

And this one was just too nice to resist, a key sacrificial victim if ever I saw one!

Hooray for Reaper minis! There are about a hundred more from their range I really want now (not all ladies!), ah well, maybe at a later point.

Treating it with contempt

My first christmas pressie sculpt of the year is done! One of my housemates will be receiving very shortly a contemptor dreadnought for his Space Wolf army... his force is quite punk so I've tried to blend the figure with a nod to road-warrior, a hint of rogue-trader era (these are old dreadnoughts after all) and some wolfy bits for good measure. Stomping an Ork bike since he had massive hassle with a speedy greeny army a little while back!
